Feel Good Art

My story and how I found my obsession.

This is an insight to how I found my love of painting and creating different types of art. Whether it be practicable, something to use that looks good to or something to simply admire and enhance your home or just to make you feel good.

What I Love

I adore water and love the colours of nature, whether it be the amazing cobalt blues of the  ocean ebbing on the golden sand, the serenity of a lake or the sparkling diamonds shimmering and  dancing on the gentle ripples of a wave. It amazes me  how nature can produce magical shapes and colours, like the way a rainbow can blend colours together to create an amazing show or how the sky can be a beautiful azure blue with soft white clouds just floating across. There is nothing like being on a beach, all of your senses come alive. Your eyes enjoy the brilliant blue hues of the ocean ebbing against the golden sands below your feet while you feel a soft cool breeze cooling your skin that has been warmed by the brilliant glowing yellow orb of light shining on you from above. You can smell the refreshing salty air coming from the seaspray lightly washing over you while hearing the tide rolling in and out, helping you to renew and clear your worries. I could never come close to reproducing natures amazing colours, but I like to try to capture some of the brilliant colours I see.

Why I Do It

I became a fulltime carer when my husband suffered a stroke in 2008. Before that I worked full time and raised our 3 sons. So when the kids grew and moved out, my days were filled with caring, which is mind numbing and stressful. I felt like I have always been looking after others,  I needed something for me!  I'd never painted before in my life, so one lonely night I was trying to think of something I could do with my spare time, I  also crochet, bake and decorate cakes but I was getting sick of crochet and you can only bake so many cakes, so I had a couple of tubes of paint in the cupboard which I'd had for years and never used. I got them out and painted 2 little pictures. From that night I was addicted. The first one's weren't spectacular but I was determined to keep improving.  Once I mastered a few, I moved on to all different projects, tiles, mugs, etc. I have painted other things like florals and fairies, etc but don't really enjoy it, I love to paint beach and lake scenes. The challenge of blending the colours of a magical sunset reflecting over subtle waves calms me. and lets me tune out of my daily struggles that comes from being a caregiver. I believe painting and crafting de-stresses me. Recently I have added popsicle stick crafts, making  mini furniture for fairy gardens, terrariums or just to pretty up pot plants and Resin Jewellery making. My home is full of colourful paintings and other crafts I have made, so I need to be able to sell some ,so I can keep enjoying my obsession. I hope you enjoy viewing and hopefully support my love of painting and crafting.
